Voted San Diego’s Best Nutcracker production by the “Tommy Awards”, this elaborate and elegant production, with exquisite costumes and scenery, will take you on Clara’s magical journey from her fun filled family Christmas party where toy soldiers and mice become life sized, to the enchanted Snow Forest and on to the Land of Sweets where she is welcomed by the Sugar Plum Fairy, her Cavalier and magical performances from dancers throughout the world.
Taking an innovative, contemporary approach inspired by Chinese traditions, top modern dance choreographer Wang Yuanyuan and visual artists Tan Shaoyuan and Hanjiang lead Beijing Dance Theater through a rich program featuring selections from Hamlet, Wild Grass and Crossing.
Combining electronic trigger boards custom-designed by Nicholas Van Young with six musicians and eight tap dancers, renowned tap choreographer Michelle Dorrance brings an innovative performance–where dancers actually play the score as they dance–to ArtPower at UC San Diego.
